Ice machine not working as it should?
A drop in ice production doesn’t always mean there’s something seriously wrong. Start with a few common issues below – and if the problem persists, Local Ice can help diagnose and repair it.
Common ice machine problems
Making less ice than usual
Scale build-up, restricted airflow or high room temperatures can all reduce production. Start by checking the air filter and clearance around the machine.
Running constantly but the bin never fills
If the machine is running but the bin never fills, demand may be exceeding its production capacity – particularly during peak periods.
Cloudy, soft or misshapen ice
Changes in ice quality can indicate water quality issues, scale build-up, a fouled evaporator, or a machine that needs cleaning and/or servicing.
Water on the floor
Check the drain has a continuous downhill fall and isn't blocked. If the drain is clear, stop and call us.
Noisier than it was
Could be a fan, a bearing or a loose panel. The cheap causes and the expensive ones sound similar, so it's worth having someone listen to it.
Nothing at all
Check power and that the bin sensor isn't blocked by ice – a full bin stops the machine by design. Beyond that, call.
A few things to check first
Before booking a service, check that:
- The machine has power and hasn’t tripped a circuit
- There is adequate clearance around the machine
- Air vents and filters aren’t visibly blocked
- The water supply is turned on
- The drain is clear and flowing freely
- The machine isn’t being affected by excessive heat
Important
If you notice leaking water, electrical issues or anything that doesn’t look safe, stop using the machine and contact our team.
Still having trouble?
Tell us the machine model and what it’s doing. Our team can help diagnose the issue and arrange a service if required.
