Ice at the dock and on the boat

Getting ice onto a catch quickly is the whole game. The sooner fish is down to temperature, the longer it holds condition and the better it grades. That means ice has to be there when the boat is, and in enough volume to do the job in one go rather than in batches.

What suits fishing
  • Flake and sub-zero flake – flake moulds around the catch without bruising it, and sub-zero comes out dry so it won’t clump in a hold.
  • Ice rooms and bulk storage – so a full load is ready before the boat comes in, rather than being made on demand.
  • Allow roughly 0.34 kg of ice per kg of fish to chill it down, and about 1 kg per kg to hold it in warm conditions.

Bore water and salt air are hard on equipment. Filtration and where the machine sits matter more in this industry than almost any other.
