Frequently asked questions
The things people ask us most often, answered straight.
How much ice do I actually need?
Roughly 0.7–0.9 kg per restaurant cover, 1.4 kg per bar seat on a busy night, 2.3 kg per hotel room, and 3.2–4.5 kg per hospital bed. Add 20–25% for your busiest day. Our sizing guide walks through the whole calculation.
Will it make less ice in summer?
Yes. Across our range, output drops about 19% on average between a 21°C room and a 32°C one — some models barely notice, others lose a third. Worth factoring in if the machine lives in a hot kitchen.
What size storage bin do I need?
Less than you’d think. Across the machines we sell where the manufacturer chose the matched bin, the median holds about 44% of a day’s production. If your machine doesn’t recover overnight, look to upgrade your machine before the bin.
What's the difference between an ice head and a self-contained machine?
A self-contained machine makes ice and stores it in one unit. An ice head makes ice only and sits on a separate storage bin you choose to suit the demand. Heads give you more flexibility; self-contained units are simpler to install.
Which ice type should I choose?
Cube and crescent for general bar and restaurant work, gourmet for premium spirits, nugget for healthcare and quick service, flake for seafood and produce display. If you’re between two, tell us the application and we’ll say which.
Do I need a special power supply?
Usually not. Most of our machines run on a standard 10 amp outlet. Larger heads and dispensers want 15–20 amp, and the big flake plant is three phase. Tell us the model and we’ll confirm before it arrives.
How often does it need servicing?
A clean and descale two to three times a year for most sites, more often in hard water or a greasy kitchen. Filters are separate and depend on your water — anywhere from monthly to twice a year.
Can you service a machine I bought elsewhere?
Yes, we service and install all brands of ice machines, not just the ones we supply.
Do you deliver outside Perth?
Yes, including remote and mine sites. Freight is quoted per job because it depends on the machine and the destination.
Why don't your prices include freight?
Because a machine going to a Perth café and the same machine going to the Pilbara are very different numbers, and building an average into the price would overcharge one and undercharge the other. We quote it per enquiry.
Is it worth repairing an old machine?
Sometimes. If it’s had repeated repairs, the next one is usually good money after bad. We’ll give you the honest answer, including when it’s “keep it”.
How long should a machine last?
Eight to twelve years with proper maintenance. Water quality and where it’s installed matter more than brand.
Something we haven't covered?
Ask us. We’d rather answer the question than have you guess.
